Two Major Types of Plastic Surgery

Plastic Surgery Acts Like Magic.

Cosmetic Surgery

Aesthetic or Cosmetic plastic surgery is performed to improve the external physical appearance of any body part in a healthy normal person. It includes surgical and non-surgical techniques performed to reveal the innate beauty of a person. It enhances beauty, increasing it beyond the ordinary and towards an aesthetic ideal. Improving your self-image boosts your self-confidence and brings out your best in life. Aesthetic or cosmetic plastic surgery is a precision method required to realize your dream of achieving a dream persona. In today's world, to be the best, you must look like your the best.

Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive Plastic Surgery is used to improve dysfunctional body parts. It is performed to heal any defect and restore function, to achieve the best form and function of any body part. This surgery is the mainstay of healing a person with mutilating deformities following injury or cancer. It has a wide variety, ranging from skin grafts to micro-vascular surgeries like free tissue transfers (flaps). Hand, burn, and cranio-maxillo-facial surgeries are included as sub-specialties. For example, it can correct facial deformity following injury and burns; and repair limbs damaged by traumatic injuries.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Trusted guidance to help you feel informed and confident about your surgical journey..

For a surgical rhinoplasty, you need an absolute minimum of 3 to 6 months before any major events. While 80% of the structural swelling subsides within 4 to 6 weeks—allowing you to look perfectly normal in daily life—the fine refining of the nasal tip takes up to a full year. If you are operating on a tighter timeline (less than 2 months), non-surgical rhinoplasty using dermal fillers can be considered for specific dorsal defects, but surgical changes must not be rushed close to the wedding date.

The Expert Answer: Deep acne scars (boxcar, icepick, and rolling scars) cannot be erased by a single salon facial or basic chemical peel. The most effective protocol is a combination approach: Subcision to release the fibrous bands pulling the skin down, paired with Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing or Microneedling Radiofrequency (MNRF) to stimulate collagen creation. Because these procedures require 4 to 6 sessions spaced a month apart, you should ideally start this treatment plan 6 months prior to your wedding events

The Expert Answer: Initial swelling and minor asymmetry are completely normal and typically peak within the first 24 to 48 hours. The hyaluronic acid filler requires about 1 to 2 weeks to fully integrate into the tissues and settle into its final, natural shape. We advise brides and bridesmaids to schedule any injectable lip treatments at least 3 weeks before any major public events or pre-wedding photography.

The Expert Answer: The cost is highly variable and depends on the number of anatomical zones being treated, the volume of fat extraction, and whether a muscle repair (fascial plication) is required during a tummy tuck. In major medical hubs like Delhi NCR, Chandigarh, or Lucknow, Liposuction typically ranges from ₹80,000 to ₹2,50,000+, while a full Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) ranges from ₹1,50,000 to ₹3,50,000. Transparent pricing should always account for operating theater fees, board-certified anesthesiologist charges, and post-operative compression garments.

Yes, provided your hormonal levels are medically managed and stable. It is crucial to understand that liposuction is a body contouring procedure, not a weight-loss solution. While it permanently removes localized fat pockets that are resistant to diet and exercise due to metabolic conditions like PCOS/PMOS, it does not cure the underlying metabolic disorder. Maintaining a stable weight post-surgery is essential to preserve your aesthetic outcomes.

The incisions are designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. For fat removal, tiny 3–4mm entry punctures are made in hidden skin creases. If glandular tissue excision is required, a semi-circular incision is placed precisely along the lower border of the areola (the junction where dark nipple skin meets normal skin). Over 6 to 12 months, this scar matures and fades significantly, becoming barely noticeable to the untrained eye.

  • Days 1–7: Rest and light walking to promote healthy blood circulation.
  • Weeks 2–3: Brisk walking and lower-body exercises (stationary cycling) are permitted; avoid all chest activation.
  • Weeks 4–5: Gradual introduction of light upper-body weights, ensuring you stop if you feel any pulling or discomfort.

Week 6 onwards: Resumption of heavy chest training, push-ups, and high-impact sports, subject to final clinical evaluation.

No, this is a very common linguistic misconception. The word "plastic" originates from the ancient Greek word plastikos, which translates literally to "to mold, shape, or form." Plastic surgery focuses on reshaping and restoring human tissue. While specific inert medical implants—such as silicone for breast augmentation or porous polyethylene for facial reconstruction—are safely utilized, regular commercial plastics play no role in your surgical care.

In India, a fully qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon must hold a super-specialty super-degree beyond their basic medical education. After completing an MBBS and an MS (General Surgery), they must earn either an M.Ch (Magister Chirurgiae) or a DNB (Diplomate of National Board) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. You can easily verify these credentials by checking their registration status on the official National Medical Commission (NMC) website or the respective State Medical Council register.

Yes, from a biocompatibility standpoint, fat grafting is exceptionally safe because it uses autologous tissue—meaning your own cells. This completely eliminates any risk of allergic reactions, foreign-body rejection, or late-stage granulomas (hard inflammatory lumps) that can occasionally occur with synthetic materials. It is an excellent, natural alternative for facial rejuvenation (hollow under-eyes, sunken cheeks) and moderate volume enhancement.
