Facelift Surgery (Rhytidectomy)

A facelift is a specialized surgical procedure designed to restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance to the lower two-thirds of the face and the neck. Rather than simply pulling the skin tight, a modern facelift addresses the underlying structural changes caused by time, gravity, and a natural loss of tissue elasticity.

By repositioning deep tissues and removing excess skin, this procedure effectively tightens a sagging jawline, smooths deep creases around the mouth, and cleans up the contours of the neck.

Why is a Facelift Needed?

As we age, the skin thins and the underlying muscular and fatty layers of the face begin to shift downward. This can create a tired, heavy, or aged appearance that does not match how vibrant you feel on the inside.

A facelift is highly effective at correcting:

  • Jowls: Sagging tissue along the jawline that disrupts a smooth, defined profile.
  • Deep Nasolabial Folds: The lines running from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth.
  • Marionette Lines: Creases extending downward from the corners of the mouth.
  • Midface Hollowness: Drooping cheek fat compartments that cause a hollow under-eye or flat cheek appearance.

Neck Laxity: Loose skin and displaced fat beneath the chin, often referred to as a “turkey neck” or double chin.

How to Prepare for Surgery

Your surgical team will provide a tailored preparation checklist. Following these guidelines closely ensures the safest possible procedure and a smoother recovery.

  • Medications & Supplements: Stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and herbal supplements for at least two weeks before surgery, as these can increase bruising and bleeding.
  • Smoking & Nicotine: Avoid all forms of nicotine (including vapes and patches) for a minimum of 4 weeks before and after surgery. Nicotine restricts blood flow and can severely impair wound healing.
  • Home Setup: Prepare a recovery space with extra pillows to keep your head elevated, easy-to-digest foods, and loose-fitting shirts that button up or zip in the front (avoiding anything pulled over the head).
